The IOSCO Annual Meeting is a major event in the international regulatory calendar, which provides an important opportunity for regulators worldwide to share ideas and enhance their co-operation. CMVM is tasked with supervising and regulating the financial instruments markets as well as the agents operating within those markets and promoting investor protection. In this role, we strive to maintain, facilitate and improve the performance of the financial system and entities, and promote confident and informed participation by investors and financial consumers. In this event we will reflect on the future of the capital markets’ supervision and regulation, their contribution to the economic recovery, and on how to promote best practices for ethics, responsibility and efficiency, that contribute to sustainable growth and the well-being of our citizens. We will make this meeting a unique moment and we invite you to take time to visit Lisbon, Portugal and experience our hospitality. About CMVM

The CMVM - Comissão do Mercado de Valores Mobiliários (Portuguese Securities Market Commission) was established in May 1991 (Decree-Law No. 142-A/91 of 10 April) and is tasked with supervising and regulating markets for financial instruments and the agents operating within those markets and promoting investor protection. The CMVM also has the following responsibilities:
• Sanction breaches of the Securities Code and of supplementary legislation;
• Ensure the stability of financial markets by contributing to the identification and prevention of systemic risk;
• Contribute to the development markets for financial instruments;
• Provide information and handle complaints from retail investors;
• Mediate conflicts between entities subject to its supervision and between entities and investors;
• Assist the Government and the public official responsible for Finance;
• Perform any other duties assigned to it by law.
